in Chicagoland

It's been so wonderful to see all of Jason's family (and some of mine). We've been having a really nice time so far. Elden seems to be feeling better although poor guy now has a yeast infection from the antibiotics so I am trying to get the ped on the phone to call in something up here, but we'll see what happens.

We came in Saturday and spent the afternoon with Jason's mom Rita. We had lunch and then we got together with the rest of Jason's family at his grandmother's house. Elden ran around the house and flirted with all of Rita's friends who were joining us. We ordered a bunch of Chicago favorites for dinner and brought everything over to the hotel (along with some Chinese food Jason's grandmother made) and ate in the dining area at the hotel while Elden ran around. It got late quick and I had to take him to bed, but we had a really nice time visiting with the Chan clan.

Sunday, we did dim sum in morning in Chinatown. It was really busy. Elden ate some of the food. He liked wu gok, beef fun, sticky rice, and a few different types of bau. I was very proud of him since he is normally a really picky eater and getting him to eat anything can be a battle of the wills and a two person job.

Once he was done eating he was wanting to go go go and run around a restaurant that was not kid friendly. We got yelled at in Chinese by a waitress and decided it was time to end our rampage. Jason took him down to the street and let him walk. We went to a few stores and a bakery afterwards. I was so excited to find a small corn husk broom at one of the restaurant supply stores. I've been looking for one for a few months now. I remember having one like this when I was a kid. Elden loves sweeping and he tried to clean up the streets of Chinatown.

Later in the evening we went to Rocco and Marne's ( my cousins ) for dinner. They have a great yard and Elden enjoyed exploring it. We enjoyed dinner and their company. It's always nice to see our family.

Monday was spent taking Jason's grandmother to lunch and playing putt putt. It was cut short by a wet diaper and a hungry baby. Finally we had waited on my ped long enough and decided to go ahead into the city to check into our hotel. Of course they called while we were on the way there to say they had finally called in the prescription. On the way, we got to stop at Buckingham fountain to let Elden run. Our hotel in the city is nice, but right next to the L train, which runs all night. Kind of reminiscent of the Blues Brothers movie.
